Much awaited movie Badla, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu in lead roles, had left many intrigued when the posters and trailer had been released. Now that the movie, which was directed by Sujoy Ghosh, is out, it has received nothing but praise. Released on March 8, 2019, the movie, which is an official remake of the 2017 Spanish thriller Contratiempo (The Invisible Guest), has picked up speed at the box office, minting over Rs 5 crore on its first day.
The story is about suave lawyer Badal Gupta, who is played by Amitabh, taking up a case that involved Taapsee’s character being accused of murdering her lover. Shot abroad, the two share intense moments as they try to unravel the mystery of who the murderer is.
The movie, which was produced by Red Chillies Entertainment in association with Azure Entertainment, had opened to positive reviews from critics with Amitabh and Taapsee receiving most of the praise for their performances. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh had tweeted out the numbers for the first day, and he had said that it should witness substantial growth on day 2 and 3.
This is the second time that Amitabh and Taapsee are sharing screen space after appearing together in 2016 movie Pink, and nobody could be happier about it than the actress, who said so in an earlier interview.
“I am very excited about this film. People wait to work with him and I got to work with him twice in two years. It gives me a lot of excitement and I hope the magic gets repeated. When people say, Bachchan sir and I are a hit pair, it excites me,” PTI had quoted her as saying.
With Badla out, Taapsee is now on other projects, namely, Telegu film Game Over, Hindi movies Mission Mangal and Saand Ki Aankh. Amitabh, on the other hand, will next be seen in Telegu movie Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, Hindi movies Brahmastra and Jhund.
