Another song from Kangana Ranaut starrer Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is out and it’s titled Bharat. The soulful voice of Shankar Mahadevan and powerful presence of Kangana Ranaut make the song a beautiful rendition. Bharat is a patriotic song but sans any loud music or thumping beats. The lyrics of the song, penned down by Prasoon Joshi, will remain stuck in your head for a long time. The music of Bharat is composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy.
The video shows the journey of brave girl Manikarnika and how she becomes the queen of Jhansi, Rani Laxmibai. It begins with Manikarnika’s father teaching her a few lessons on nationalism. The words ‘Main Rahun Ya Na Rahun, Ye Desh Rehna Chahye…‘ become the motivation behind her fight with the Britishers in the revolt of 1857. Watch the video here:
The song was launched at a grand event in Gurugram yesterday, on January 15. Actors Kangana Ranaut and Ankita Lokhande unveiled Bharat along with lyricist Prasoon Joshi. A grand set was erected for the launch at Gurugram’s Kindom of Dreams.
Kangana is playing the titular character in Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, while Ankita is essaying the role of Jhalkari Bai. The film, co-directed by Kangana and Krish is set to be the big Republic Day release this year. It’s hitting the theatres on January 25, facing a Box Office clash with Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Thackeray.
Earlier, while talking about her role in the film, Kangana told The Indian Express, “Usually, it’s easy to play a character that is flawed, but to take up the role of someone who was a perfect woman, was not. I felt uncomfortable when I started shooting for the film because it needed so much faith, trust and devotion. When I signed Manikarnika, my first thought was ‘How come nobody has done a film on Rani Laxmi Bai yet?’ So, I consider it a sheer stroke of luck that I am doing it. We have also tried to keep the history as precise as possible”.
