Filmmaker Boney Kapoor is reportedly working hard to stop upcoming Bollywood film Sridevi Bungalow from being made. The trailer of the film, starring Malayalam actor Priya Prakash Varrier, has generated controversy for being strikingly similar to the life of superstar Sridevi. Now, as per a report in Deccan Chronicle, the producer and the husband of the late actress has pulled up his socks to not let the film see the light of the day.
The daily quoted a source close to Kapoor saying, “Boney won’t play into their hands and make any statement as these people (behind Sridevi Bungalow) are only looking at how to generate curiosity in their pathetic film. But he will take every legal step to prevent this sleazy film from being made.” The trailer of the film shows its female lead introducing herself as an actress named Sridevi, followed by the scenes featuring her drowning in a bathtub. While the makers have denied the film’s story being inspired by real-life Sridevi, Kapoor doesn’t seem convinced.
The daily quoted the source adding, “For Boney, a sleazy representation of his wife’s life is unacceptable. He will not rest easy until this project is aborted.” He has already sent a legal notice to the film’s team. The director of Sridevi Bungalow, Mambully himself confirmed the news to Cinestaan by saying, “We received a legal notice from Mr Boney Kapoor last week. And we will face it. My film is a suspense thriller. I told him that Sridevi is a common name. My film’s character also happens to be an actress. We will face it.”
The trailer, which was released on January 14, features the popular wink girl playing the character of Sridevi. Earlier, commenting on the film, she told the media at the launch event: “You have to watch the film and decide if its a story related to her not. I will be playing the role of lady superstar Sridevi in the film.”
