After directing Dabangg and Dabangg 2, Arbaaz Khan has decided to not helm the third part in the franchise — Dabangg 3. The film, starring Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha in their popular characters Chulbul Pandey and Rajjo, is being directed by Prabhudeva now. In his latest interview with a daily, Arbaaz reasoned this.
The actor revealed that Dabangg 3 needed a fresh perspective and therefore, it seemed important to the team to have someone on board who’s interested in masala films. Prabhudeva has directed Salman in Wanted (2009) that is believed to have given new stardom to Salman. Now, with Dabangg 3, the popular choreographer returns to direct Salman Khan on a larger canvas.
Arbaaz Khan also said that directing Dabangg 3 along with acting in it would be too much for him right now, therefore, he took the decision which was in best favour of the film. The actor was quoted by Mid-Day saying, “Directing, producing and acting are big responsibilities, and right now, I was not up for all of them, Salman’s stardom has catapulted since Dabangg and he wants to present himself.” He also revealed that he might just return to direct the fourth film in the franchise.
Arbaaz added that Dabangg 3 is going to show Chulbul Pandey’s back story and how he went on to become the Robin Hood he is known today. Earlier, Salman revealed that they are planning to release the film in December this year. Arbaaz added to the same statement and said that even though they are eyeing a late December release but a delay is also possible considering the film demands a lot of post-production work as well.
Meanwhile, the film’s first shoot schedule in Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh, is complete and now the stars are shooting in Mumbai. Apart from Sonakshi and Salman, Dabangg 3 also features Kichcha Sudeep as the main antagonist.
