Gully Boy director Zoya Akhtar took a moment to comment on actor Kangana Ranaut‘s statements in which she has accused the Hindi film industry of not supporting her enough for her films. The director has been promoting her latest film and during one such promotional interview, she was asked for her reaction on Kangana’s statements against Bollywood. Zoya, who is appreciated for strong female characters in her films, said that she doesn’t understand what Kangana says. The filmmaker said she knows the entire industry praises her work and her craft of acting, therefore, she is totally unable to understand the actor’s accusations.
Zoya was quoted by Pinkvilla saying, “Of course people appreciate her work…I don’t understand her accusations, I’m sorry.”
Earlier, Kangana said that she had even cancelled her shoots sometimes to attend the special film screening for her industry colleagues, however, she never got the same support in lieu from anyone. She was quoted by the entertainment website saying, “I have always been absolutely ignored. After Tanu Weds Manu also I have had so many trials, they would just not come. But when it comes to them, they call me shamelessly, I even sort of cancel my shoots and make sure I attend them. Now, I have stopped because it’s getting too much.”
Recently, she talked about Alia Bhatt and called her ‘Karan Johar‘s puppet’. Kangana said that she promoted Alia’s Raazi but during the entire Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi-debacle, she was left alone as no one including Alia came forward in her support. The Gully Boy star however, said that she will discuss the matter with Kanagana in person as she’s sure she hasn’t done anything to get such kind of reaction from her.
Meanwhile, Alia’s Gully Boy, which also features Ranveer Singh in the lead, has been appreciated widely for its content. The film got premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival 2019 and received a good response. It’s releasing on February 14.
