Sushant Singh Rajput turns 33 today, and the young star has come a long way from his television serial days, becoming one of the most sought after actors of Indian cinema. Sushant’s television career included an award-winning performance in the 2009-2011 soap opera Pavitra Rishta, he then entered Bollywood and starred in 2013 film Kai Po Che!. After that, there was no looking back for him, with one successful movie after another.

Some of the movies he has starred in, besides Kai Po Che!, are Shuddh Desi Romance, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Raabta and Kedarnath. The 2016 movie on MS Dhoni was a commercial success and earned him critical acclaim. Apart from acting, Sushant is also involved in various organisations that deal with helping women and young students.

Kai Po Che!

The movie, which was directed by Abhishek Kapoor, is based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel The 3 Mistakes of My Life. Apart from Sushant, the movie also had Rajkummar Rao, Amit Sadh and Amrita Puri in the lead roles. Set in Ahmedabad, the story revolved around three friends who want to start their own sports shop and sports academy. The film follows their deep friendship, and innocence tarnished by religious politics and communal hatred.

Shuddh Desi Romance

Directed by Maneesh Sharma and produced by Aditya Chopra, the 2013 movie featured Parineeti Chopra, Vaani Kapoor and Sushant in the lead roles. The story, which was set in Jaipur, Rajasthan, was based on the views of the younger generation on commitment, live-in relationships and arranged marriages compared to love marriages in small towns.

Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!

The 2015 thriller was directed by Dibakar Banerjee and produced by Banerjee and Aditya Chopra, and it had Sushant, Anand Tiwari and Swastika Mukherjee playing the lead roles. The story of the movie was based on the fictional detective Byomkesh Bakshi created by the Bengali writer Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay. The movie received positive reviews from critics, and a sequel is in the pipline.

MS Dhoni: The Untold Story

A biographical sports film written and directed by Neeraj Pandey, it had Sushant playing the part of cricketer MS Dhoni. It also starred actors Disha Patani, Kiara Advani and Anupam Kher. The film follows Dhoni’s life from a young age and through a number of events that took place in his life. Released in 2016, the film became a critical and commercial success.


The 2017 romantic adventure film was directed and produced by Dinesh Vijan co-produced by Homi Adajania and Bhushan Kumar, and it starred Sushant, Kriti Sanon and Jim Sarbh in the lead roles.


Released in 2018, the movie was written, directed and co-produced by Abhishek Kapoor, and it had Sushant and Bollywood newcomer Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles. The film tells of an inter-faith love story between a wealthy Hindu girl and a humble Muslim boy, and also incorporated the devastating floods that took place in Uttarakhand involving the historic Kedarnath Temple.

Apart from the movies that have been released, Sushant will also be starring Sonchiriya, Drive, Kizie Aur Manny, and Chhichhore.
