The latest Box Office figures of Karan Johar‘s Kalank doesn’t promise a good future run for the film. The Abhishek Varman-directorial earned Rs 9.75 crore on its first Saturday, which is way lower than expected. The Saturday collection of the film has taken its total to Rs 54.40 crore. This means that the film is even struggling to reach Rs 100 crore at the Box Office in its lifetime run. The journey is going to be even more difficult considering Avengers: Endgame is hitting the theatres on April 26 and the pre-booking of the film has already broken records in India.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh revealed the latest Box Office details of Kalank and wrote on Twitter: “#Kalank is clearly underperforming… Dips on Day 4 [Sat]… Trending is weak, so big biz on Day 5 [Sun] is ruled out… Wed 21.60 cr, Thu 11.45 cr, Fri 11.60 cr, Sat 9.75 cr. Total: ₹ 54.40 cr. India biz.” (sic)
Kalank has failed to generate any impact after its opening day. The film garnered Rs 21.60 crore on Wednesday which is the highest opening day for any Bollywood film so far this year. However, after that, the film could hardly show any effect at the Box Office.
Kalank boasts off a stellar ensemble starcast. It features Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur, Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt in important roles. The heavy promotions of the film and the larger-than-life appeal shown through the trailer, songs and other promos attracted viewers to the screen on the first day but the audience could not be impressed beyond that. The film received bad word-of-mouth that resulted in a huge dip in the Box Office collections.
Kalank is a period drama set in the 1940s during the time of India-Pakistan partition. The makers touted the film as ‘an epic love story.’ As revealed by producer Karn Johar, the story of Kalank was conceived by his late father, filmmaker Yash Johar. The project has been co-produced by Sajid Nadiadwala.
