The buzz about filmmaker Karan Johar creating a sequel to his 2008 movie Dostana, which had starred actors Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra, has been making the rounds. Now something else that is making the rounds is the rumour that actress Alia Bhatt has been chosen to play the female lead role in the sequel. The rumour has, however, been put to rest by Karan, who tweeted out a message denying it.
The 2008 romantic-comedy film had been about two men who pretended to be gay to share an apartment with a girl, but both eventually fall in love with her. It had been directed by Tarun Mansukhani and produced by Karan and Hiroo Yash Johar. On the current one, Karan has made it very clear that nothing has been decided as yet, putting rumours of Alia playing the lead role to rest.
The first Dostana also had actors Bobby Deol, Kirron Kher, Sushmita Mukherjee and Boman Irani in supporting roles, and director Tarun had drawn inspiration from his own experience when conceiving the film. The movie went on to become a box office success, and the eighth-highest-grossing Bollywood film of the year, and it received nine nominations for the 54th Filmfare Awards.
Whether Alia will be essaying the lead role or not is yet to be seen, though she will be hitting the big screen soon with movie Gully Boy alongside Ranveer Singh. The other projects that she is involved in are Kalank, which has a host of stars, and Brahmastra, which will again have a good number of well-known stars.
