KGF: Chapter 1 aka Kolar Gold Fields is minting gold at the ticket windows as the Yash and Srinidhi Shetty starrer continues to rule the box office in its third week. Remaining rock-steady in the international circuits, including the crucial markets of USA, UK and UAE-GCC markets, the period crime thriller has reportedly entered the Rs 200 crore club at the global Box Office on Day 18 of its release, having made Rs 197.56 crore globally in just 17 days, if the reports are to be believed. With this, the movie becomes not just the first Kannada film to have achieved this feat but also has paved way for the second chapter of the film which is expected to become a bigger success at the ticket windows. In US alone the movie has made a solid Rs 5.31 crore at their Box Office, a figure unheard of for Kannada films until now.

Sharing the figures on his Twitter handle, film critic and analyst Taran Adarsh wrote, “Super-success of #KGF has given confidence to #Kannada film industry to dream big and explore newer horizons… While #KGF is faring exceptionally well in #India, it has crossed $ 750k in #USA… Total till 6 Jan 2019: $ 761,006 [₹ 5.31 cr]. @comScore” (sic).

Ranking as the first Kannada film to make around Rs 120 crore in Karnataka alone, the film has done fairly well in other languages too. Despite facing stiff competition from big budget Bollywood releases like Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero and Ranveer Singh’s Simmba, the Hindi version of KGF is all set to go past Rs 40 crore mark. While the movie is seeing a stronghold at the Hindi box office despite limited screens, the Telugu version of KGF has grossed Rs 20 crore and is one of the highest dubbed Telugu grossers of the year.

Helmed by Prashanth Neel, the film is produced by Vijay Kiragandur and also stars Ramachandra Raju, Vasishta N. Simha, Ayyappa P. Sharma and Harish Roy in pivotal roles apart from the lead cast.
