Actor Akshay Kumar is expected to finally begin shooting for his next film from next week. Tentatively titled as Laxmi, it’s the remake of Tamil horror film Kanchana and brings Akshay back in the genre after a hiatus of 12 years. He was last seen performing the role of a psychiatrist in 2007 Hindi horror-comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa, that featured actors Vidya Balan and Shiney Ahuja with him. Actor Kiara Advani has been finalised as the lead opposite Akshay in Laxmi.
As reported by Mumbai Mirror, Farhad Samji has been roped in as the writer and he has been working on the script for the last six months with his team. The director of Kanchana, Raghava Lawrence, who also played the lead in all three films from the Tamil franchise, will be seen helming Akshay’s Laxmi as well. The report added that the script of the film will be little tweaked to match the Hindi movie-watching audience.
The shooting of the film is going to begin with a song titled ‘Bismillah‘. The report described it as a ‘typical horror film’. Akshay is expected to wrap the first schedule after shooting some initial scenes at the studio by the end of April. Post which he will hop on to shoot Rohit Shetty‘s much-awaited cop drama Sooryavanshi. The film goes on the floors in May and will be wrapped up by the end of July. Akshay will reportedly begin the second schedule of Laxmi in August and finish it before the year-end as the makers are eyeing an early 2020 release for the film.
Tamil film Kanchana was released in the year 2007 and was both critically and commercially acclaimed. The second part in the franchise, titled Kanchana: Muni, released in 2011 and was received well. The third film, Kanchana 3 is opening on April 19. The Hindi remake, Laxmi, has got Tusshar Kapoor and Shabina Khan on board as producers. Meanwhile, Akshay has got Dharma Productions’ next – Good News, lined up for a September 6 release this year. The film is directed by debutant Raj Mehta and features Kareena Kapoor Khan with Akshay.
