A year after the legendary, Sridevi passed away in her hotel room in Dubai, UAE, due to accidental drowning, Bollywood’s Dhak-Dhak girl, Madhuri Dixit reveals her first reaction when makers of the upcoming movie, Kalank, approached her to step into the former’s shoes. Sridevi was part of the original cast of the Dharma Production produced Kalank.

While talking to PTI, Madhuri revealed, “What took time was to digest the whole thing that had happened. It was so shocking, I was like ‘you want me to do this role?’ because even they (filmmakers) were stuck. They had to go on,” Madhuri Dixit told PTI in an interview while adding: “As a person, it was hard to deal. As an actor, you know the role, the script. It’s a different matter altogether. But to accept the truth was very difficult.”

Last year, when Madhuri stepped on board, Janhvi Kapoor took to her Instagram handle to thank the beautiful actress for stepping into her mommy’s role in the film. Her post featured Madhuri and Sridevi and was captioned, “Abhishek Varman’s next film was very close to mom’s heart …Dad, Khushi and I are thankful to Madhuriji for now being a part of this beautiful film…” (sic).

Kalank, directed by Agneepath fame Abhishek Varman, is a period drama. Another very fascinating anecdote about the film is that its narrative was conceptualised by Karan Johar’s father Yash Johar around 15 years back. Apart from Varun and Alia, Kalank also features Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur and Hiten Tejwani in important roles. The film which is set in the 1940s is slated to hit the screens on April 19 this year.
