Designer Manish Malhotra recently took a moment to remember actor Sridevi who passed away last year in Dubai. The designer was one of the close friends of the actor and her death left him with so many sweet memories from the past. In his latest interview with India Today, Manish mentioned that he missed Sridevi on the sets of Kalank. The actor was the first choice to play the role of Bahaar Begum in the big Dharma Productions film. However, her sudden death made Madhuri Dixit come on board to play the character.
Manish, who was the official costume designer for Kalank, recalled how he had started discussing her character with Sridevi just before she passed away. The designer also revealed that there were many moments on the sets when it struck him how it would have looked like had Sridevi was present there.
The news portal quoted the designer saying, “There were so many times on the set I thought about her. And I thought that if she’d be here, we would be discussing her clothes or jewellery.”
Sridevi was fond of Manish Malhotra’s outfits. From saree, anarkali to giant gowns and other striking dresses, Manish had a dress for every occasion when it came to dressing up the lady superstar. Now, the designer is the go-to person for the actor’s young daughters Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor. Whether it’s western or traditional, the two fashionistas are often seen sporting creations by the celebrated designer.
Earlier, expressing his grief over Sridevi’s death, Manish took to Instagram and wrote, “Sridevi and I first met in 1990 when she was already a superstar and I was beginning my career. Working with an icon I always called her “Ma’am” and that was a turning point in my career, as it was the beginning of many associations and a longstanding friendship beyond work.” – @manishmalhotra05
