In the wake of #MeToo movement, multiple women came forward and shared their horrifying stories. Many renowned faces of the industry and outside were accused of harassment, assault, and even rape. One among them was filmmaker Sajid Khan. As soon as his name came under the scanner, he was asked to step down as a director of Housefull 4. Though Sajid has denied all the allegations, his cousin Farhan Akhtar opened up about it at a recent event. He told PTI that if he knew about it, he would have spoken way before the story broke.
PTI quoted him saying, “The truth is I didn’t. If I did know I would’ve spoken about it way before the story broke. There was this certain guilt about that, how could this be going on and I had no idea. So there were conflicted emotions.”
He also revealed that three women got in touch with him privately telling him that the stories are true. He further said that it is a woman’s decision to decide when she wants to open up about her story.
He further said, “It was surprise, disappointment and strangely because when it’s a member of your family, you also feel a certain level of guilt. It’s happened to all of us in the past when we hear something like this and say ‘but how come someone so close to him didn’t know.”
After Sajid was accused of sexual harassment, Farhan tweeted, “I cannot adequately stress how shocked, disappointed and heartbroken I am to read the stories about Sajid’s behaviour. I don’t know how but he will have to find a way to atone for his alleged actions.”
Farah Khan also tweeted, “This is a heartbreaking time for my family. We have to work through some very difficult issues. If my brother has behaved in this manner he has a lot to atone for.I don’t in any way endorse this behavior and Stand in solidarity with any woman who has been hurt.”
After Tanushree Dutta accused Nana Patekar of sexual harassment on the sets of Horn Ok Pleassss in 2008, the #MeToo campaign gained momentum in India.
