Television star Mouni Roy, who is making her Bollywood debut with Gold, has now signed for another film Made In China, opposite Rajkummar Rao. She will be playing the role of Rajkummar’s wife in the film which will be directed by Mikhil Musale.

Raj will be playing the role of a struggling Gujarati boy and Mouni, his wife will be seen as a Mumbai girl who moves to Ahmedabad after marrying him. As mentioned by a source to Mumbai Mirror, “She’s a simple housewife, living in a lower middle-class locality, feisty and crazy about Raj. She’s by his side through his struggle and pushes him to go to China when the opportunity calls. Raj, who wants to give her the best, crosses the Great Wall hoping to become a successful entrepreneur. It’s the couple’s fascinating journey.” Talking about Mouni’s role, producer of Made In China Dinesh Vijan, told Mumbai Mirror, “We wanted someone who’d connect with the heartland and Mouni, a typical Indian beauty, has a huge fan following. She has a strong personality but gentle eyes and is a good dancer which is essential for the role as her character has a passion for classical Indian dance having learnt it. She has started working on her Gujarati dialect. Raj will start prep soon and the chameleon he is, I’m sure he’ll quickly get into character.”

Mouni has two films in the line-up. Gold directed by Reema Kagti, which also stars Akshay Kumar, Amit Sadh, Vineet Kumar and Kunal Kapoor. Currently, she is shooting for Brahmastra with Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Nagarjuna. The 32-year-old actor has also been roped in for RAW: Romeo Akbar Walter, which also stars John Abraham. Talking about her excitement on this film, Mauni told MM, “I’ve given auditions in the past but this film just happened. I went for a meeting and the team instantly felt I suited the character as I have an old world vibe. They offered me the role and I immediately said ‘yes’. I wasn’t happy with the other offers I got around the time but I am excited about this film”.
