After wrapping his upcoming film India’s Most Wanted with actor Arjun Kapoor, director Raj Kumar Gupta has announced his next film. The director is going to helm a film based on Indian actor-turned-spy Ravinder Kaushik. Gupta has taken the rights from Kaushik’s family and will soon start filming the project. He revealed the news to a daily and said that it’s an ’emotional and remarkable’ story based on the life of one of India’s greatest spies.
Gupta talked to Mumbai Mirror and revealed the story of Indian RAW agent, also known as the Black Tiger, is quite fascinating. He said, “It’s an emotional and remarkable story. We are at the scripting stage right now. I am humbled by his family’s trust in me.” The director is also keen to shoot the film at real locations in India. The film, which is most likely to be titled as ‘The Black Tiger’, will be shot at Rajasthan, Delhi and Iran among other places. Gupta said, “I will shoot it across Rajasthan, Punjab, Delhi, and Iran. My script captures Kaushik’s journey from ages 21 to 49.”
Kaushik’s sister Shashi Vashishth has given her approval for the film stating that the family was approached earlier as well, but with Gupta, things felt right. She was quoted by the daily saying, “As a child, he used to write plays about patriotism. He was so handsome, people called him Vinod Khanna. His story is unique. Many people have approached us in the past to make a film on him but it never felt right because it’s personal”.
The director’s upcoming film with Arjun is also based on true events. It shows the story of India’s mission to capture the country’s most wanted terrorist without the use of a single bullet. Arjun plays the character of an intelligence officer in the film. Gupta is known to make some hard-hitting cinema like Raid (2018) and No One Killed Jessica (2011).
