Actor Sonam Kapoor has broken her silence on the sexual harassment allegations against filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani. Sonam was promoting her next film, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga when she was asked to comment on the matter. The actor said that while she supports the movement, she is also quite close to Hirani and therefore, it won’t be justified on her part to take a side on the matter. However, she added that she would like to talk on the same once her film is released.
Sonam further said there’s also a possibility of the allegations being false. She added, “In the Me Too movement, I always believe a woman. But in this case, we need to reserve our judgment. Two things here – one the film is as important as the movement and second, I have known Hirani for many years and I respect him as a filmmaker and a man. I will talk about it at length when the movie is released. But what if it’s (allegations) aren’t true, the movement will get derailed.”
Sonam then took the reference of the Tanushree Dutta case to state how research is necessary in such cases. She said, “In Tanushree’s case, there was proper research done and many people came forward and you know where this is coming from.”

Rajkumar Hirani produced Ek Ladki… with Vidhu Vinod Chopra. However, as the allegations against him surfaced, his name was removed from the film’s posters, trailer, and promos. Earlier, actor Sharman Joshi and producer Boney Kapoor supported Hirani in the matter stating that the filmmaker is a man of utmost respect and always maintain a dignified stance.
Notably, a report in Huff Post revealed that a woman who worked on Hirani’s film Sanju as an assistant had accused the man of sexually harassing her over a period of six months. It was also reported that she had written a complaint to Hirani’s other associates – Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Anupama Chopra, and Abhijat Joshi, on e-mail. However, the director denied all the allegations.
