After his Filmfare acceptance speech earlier this year, actor Ranbir Kapoor has once again taken a moment to talk about his father Rishi Kapoor who has been recuperating from cancer in New York. In his latest interview with a daily, the actor opened up on many things but his statements about his father seem special. Ranbir said that Rishi Kapoor is doing ‘well for himself’ and all these days have been really difficult for him. The actor added that he knows his father and understands his love for the movies, therefore, when he couldn’t chase his passion because of his illness, it did take a toll on him last year.
Ranbir interacted with DNA recently and said, “It has been a hard one year for him. His desire and only endeavour in life is to act in movies. So this one-year sabbatical has been a little setback for him. But he is doing really well for himself.” Earlier, during Filmfare, while receiving the Best Actor award for his performance in Sanju, Ranbir mentioned that he wants his father to feel good. With the trophy in his hand, Ranbir took over the stage and revealed that Rishi misses the industry and constantly keeps asking him about what’s happening in the movie business. The actor, who was present with Alia Bhatt on the stage, also said that his dad fears if he would ever be able to make a comeback on-screen after returning to India.
Meanwhile, as he himself revealed in a statement to Deccan Chronicle, Rishi Kapoor has been declared cancer free. He said, “My eighth month of treatment started on May 1 in the US. But God has been kind! I am in remission, meaning now I am cancer-free.”
Talking about taking the family legacy of filmmaking ahead, Ranbir said that even though RK Studio has been sold off, he will make sure that his family’s name is intact. He was quoted by the daily saying, “RK studio was RK studio because of my grandfather (Raj Kapoor). You feel sad that the studio will not be there any more. RK studios is more in spirit and I think I would like to take the legacy forward by producing films and making movies.”
On the work front, Ranbir is gearing up for the release of Brahmastra which is directed by Ayan Mukerji and features him opposite Alia Bhatt. The next up his sleeve is YRF’s Shamshera in which he is playing the character of a dacoit.
