Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji is all set to reprise her feisty cop role in Mardaani 2 with shooting said to be starting soon. Rani, who had played a Senior Inspector, who took on the kingpin of a child trafficking racket, had received a lot of praise for her acting in the first part. The 2014 film had also received critical acclaim and emerged as a box office hit. Now it has been revealed that filming for the second part is starting from March 18.

Rani, who had been in a four-year hiatus, had recently made a comeback with critically acclaimed movie Hichki. According to Bollywood Life, in the second part of Mardaani she will be facing a merciless villain, who is just 21 years old.

“Mardaani 2 shoot starts in Mumbai in March and this will be a short schedule. Rani is raring to go and it will be quite thrilling to see her back in action as Shivani Shivaji Roy. She is taking on a 21-year-old villain who knows no mercy or empathy,” a source close to the project was quoted as telling an entertainment portal.

Another source told DNA, “Their edge-of-the-seat showdown will have the audiences glued to their seats.”

The first movie had been directed by Pradeep Sarkar, and now the second will have debutant Gopi Puthram helming it. Rani had earlier spoken about a sequel to the movie being filmed, and her statement had been shared in a post that Yash Raj Films had posted on Instagram.

“Mardaani is and will always be extremely close to my heart. Right since its release, everyone has asked me time and again when I would be doing Mardaani 2 and I’m sure this announcement will come as a pleasant surprise to them all. Gopi has written an extraordinary script that we all love and I can’t wait to start shooting this film soon,” she had said.

In the first part, Rani had played Senior Inspector Shivani Shivaji Roy, a dedicated and brave police officer of the Mumbai Police, who chases a Delhi-based kingpin, who runs an organised crime cartel involving child trafficking and drugs.
