After filmmaker Rahul Rawail, actor Rishi Kapoor has himself announced that he is cancer-free now. The veteran actor spoke to a news daily in his latest interview and revealed that he is in remission which means he has won his battle against cancer. Rishi added that even though his eight months treatment is over, he will have to stay in the US for around two months more for some medical procedures that are still left to be completed. Taking a sigh of relief, the Prem Rog star told Deccan Chronicle, “My eighth month of treatment started on May 1 in the US. But God has been kind! I am in remission, meaning now I am cancer-free.” He added that he has to undergo a bone-marrow transplant after which he will head back home.
The actor gave the credit of his survival to his family and praised them for being with him like a rock. The senior Kapoor thanked his wife, Neetu Kapoor, for handling him in the worst of times and showing extreme courage. He mentioned his kids Ranbir Kapoor and Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, for ‘shouldering’ his problems all this while. Rishi Kapoor was quoted saying, “Neetu has stood by me like a rock. Otherwise, I am too difficult a person to handle as far as food and drink are concerned.” He expressed gratitude towards his fans and well-wishers for sending him best wishes and keeping him in their prayers. Rishi said, “Being in remission is a big thing and it’s all because of my family and my fans’ prayers and duas that have worked. I thank them all.”
Earlier, talking about his state of mind, Ranbir revealed that his father often worries about whether he will be able to find work again after taking a break from the movie business once he returns to India. The Sanju star was making an acceptance speech at the Filmfare Awards 2019 when he said that his father is dealing with a tough phase in life and he’s trying to cope up well.
It was in September last year that Rishi Kapoor announced he was leaving for the US and will not be returning to the country anytime soon. In Neetu’s New Year post on Instagram later, she hinted that her husband had been battling cancer in New York and wrote that she wished ‘cancer to remain just a zodiac sign in the future.’ Rishi’s brother, Randhir Kapoor also remained tight-lipped about his then undisclosed ailment and maintained that his brother had been recuperating well from the illness. At last, happy news!
