In the previous months, newly-wed actor Ranveer Singh has been kept on his toes while shooting for his cop drama, Rohit Shetty directorial Simmba, that released today and at the same time preparing for his wedding to actress Deepika Padukone in Lake Como, Italy. One can’t help wondering if the shoot was compromised for the destination wedding but Rohit confirmed otherwise.
In an interview to Pinkvilla today, the director brushed aside these rumours saying, “He made it a point that it never, you know, the marriage part or the preparation of marriage ever came in, in the line of Simmba. Never. And the credit goes to him and Deepika. Never ever we had a moment that Ranveer is coming in an hour late because he’s prepping for his marriage or he’s doing some bookings or he’s gone somewhere, never, like we made this film in four and a half months with him but never was a day that the prep of marriage came in our way.”
This is not all. The elated director, whose masala entertainer hit the cinemas today was all gaga over his lead actor. Listing lesser known facts about Ranveer, Rohit said, “Three things which people don’t know about Ranveer is that he is a child, is a kid, is pure at heart, he is genuine and second, he is still the Bandra/ Khar boy, being such a big star, he is still grounded. And he is still that middle-class mentality he has. And that’s what makes him such a big star. Because he can emote that emotions, he can feel that emotion of a middle-class person or a commoner, I would say. So, he still has that approach. And he still believes in that. And thirdly, I think he is too honest with his work and his craft.”
That Ranveer is a powerhouse of energy is no secret. Yet what made Rohit single him out to play a role as demanding and as serious as that of a cop, is another question that many have pondered over. Rohit clarified, “…this guy (the cop in Simmba) is notorious, naughty, corrupt, so it had to differentiate. That was the first reason that I started working on this film. And then it just happened that we were shooting for an ad, two and a half years ago when I told him that this is one film I want to make, this is the line of this particular film I’ve seen. And if you change it into a Hindi cinema keeping the character in mind, but we change the whole of screenplay, it will really work and I narrated him few scenes and he got excited about it. And he said I would love to do this film. And that’s how the journey started. Today, when I see the film, I don’t think any other guy or any other actor could have done justice to Simmba.”
The movie starring Ranveer and Sara Ali Khan opened to fantastic reviews today from the public. Written by Yunus Sajawal and Sajid-Farhad, the movie, which is a spin-off of the Singham franchise, also stars Sonu Sood as an antagonist with actor Ajay Devgn making a special appearance, reprising his role of Bajirao Singham.
