Audiences were eagerly waiting for Sanjay Dutt’s biopic Sanju, to hit the screens and finally when it did on June 29, the theatres filled fast and many applauded the film. At the same time, Sanju received a lot of criticism as well, one of them was for not showing Sanjay Dutt‘s relationship with his sisters, Namrata and Priya Dutt. Namrata finally broke her silence and spilt how she felt about the movie as a sister to Sanjay Dut and a daughter to Sunil Dutt during an interview with SpotBoyE. “Yes, I liked it but being a family member who is so closely connected, it would be difficult for me to comment on it. I underwent everything with Sanjay. But yes, Ranbir was very good and the film is entertaining,” said Namrata.
Talking about Paresh Rawal playing the role of Sunil Dutt, Namrata said, “I can’t see anyone portraying my father. He was special. Not that I didn’t like him. I didn’t connect, but I’m not the audience. I’m Sunil Dutt’s daughter.” On Manisha Koirala playing Nargis Dutt, Namrata said that being their daughter it was difficult for her to make any judgements. “She was okay too. Being Sunil Dutt and Nargis’ daughter, it’s difficult to make judgments. If the audience connected with them, it’s great!,” she added.
We know that Sanjay went through a phase where he was addicted to drugs. Watching this phase on the big screen was nerve wrecking. Talking about what moved her in the film, Namrata at once said, “The drug phase. Hard time, especially for my father. Of course, for Sanju too, and he is a fighter for sure. He had the guts to give up this addiction, with no relapse. It wasn’t easy. His jail phase without frills to go through that without losing was enormously tough.”
