Actress Sara Ali Khan, who made her Bollywood debut last year in director Abhishek Kapoor’s Kedarnath, has said that she owes a lot of thanks to her co-star actor Sushant Singh Rajput for helping her with her Hindi. In an earlier interview, Sara revealed that people have been praising her for her perfect diction in the movie, but in truth, it was because of Sushant that she sounded so perfect.
In the interview with Mumbai Mirror, Sara said that her Hindi used to be really bad earlier, and so her main preparation for Kedarnath involved her learning how to speak the language correctly. She also said that all the credit goes to Sushant, who she converses only in Hindi with now.
“My Hindi used to be really bad earlier so it feels good when I get so many compliments now with people saying, ‘Bachchon mein sabse saaf iski Hindi hai’ (From all the kids, her Hindi pronunciation is the clearest). Learning to speak the language right was my main prep for my debut film Kedarnth,” she was quoted as saying.
“In fact, the first time Sushant met me, he immediately noted my flawed diction and told me, ‘Teri Hindi saaf nahi hai, ab se hum sirf Hindi mein baat karenge’ (Your Hindi is not clear). So for every compliment that I get, I give a 100 per cent credit to Sushant with whom even now I only converse in Hindi.
“My mom (Amrita Singh) also speaks Hindi well so listening to her helped me improve. Today, I’m more comfortable expressing myself in Hindi because sometimes when you are speaking English, you’re at a loss for the right words. That’s not the case with Hindi as it is the operative language we emote in,” she stated.
It seems all has gone well for the young actor, who went on to star in director Rohit Shetty’s movie Simmba alongside Ranveer Singh. Both the movies she starred in were box office hits.
