The country sheds tears of joy as after two days in Pakistan’s custody, IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman has returned to India a few minutes ago. Leading Bollywood celebrities in welcoming the hero back home, actor Shah Rukh Khan welcomed the brave-heart back along with Varun Dhawan, Riteish Deshmukh, Anupam Kher and others on their respective social media handles.
Sharing a picture of tricolour, SRK captioned it as, “There is no better feeling than Coming back Home, for home is the place of love, hope & dreams. Ur bravery makes us stronger. Eternally grateful. #WelcomeBackAbhinandan” (sic).
Smearing his tweet with tricolour emojis, Riteish wrote, “Welcome Back Home Dear #Abhinanadan – we salute your courage, bravery & service to our nation” (sic).
Appreciating Pakistan’s move to release Abhinandan, Varun Dhawan tweeted in his welcome, “Welcome back home #WelcomeBackAbinandan a true hero. These humane actions give hope that all humanity is not lost. Bharat mata ki Jai” (sic).
Filmmaker Karan Johar and actors Emraan Hashmi, Sushmita Sen and Anupam Kher too had tweeted earlier, sharing their excitement on having the hero back.
Varthaman’s MiG 21 had crashed on the other side while he chased down Pakistan’s F16 jets early on Wednesday morning in the latter’s bid to attack India’s military installations. Several videos emanating from Pakistan showed him injured while some had him being interrogated while the officer said he was being treated well.
India sought for humane treatment of Varthaman, in accordance with the Geneva Conventions. On Thursday evening, Pakistan PM Imran Khan announced that Varthaman would be released in a gesture of peace.
After waiting the entire day with bated breath, India saw Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, the IAF pilot held captive by Pakistan for two days, arrive on Friday evening at the Wagah border.
