Actor Shamita Shetty has spoken out against those who think she’s being taken care of by her sister Shilpa Shetty and brother-in-law Raj Kundra. The actor, who debuted in the industry with a noteworthy performance in YRF’s Mohabbatein (2000), talked to a daily in her latest interview and mentioned that she is not living off her sister and brother-in-law. Shamita said she agrees she must have made some wrong life choices after her debut in the industry and that she should have been more concerned about her career, but she’s still taking care of herself.
The actor talked to Bombay Times and revealed that it pleases her when people compare her to her sister because she has always aspired to be like her. She said she doesn’t feel offended but wonders how can people expect two individuals to achieve the same things in life. She was quoted by the daily saying, “I’m lucky to be compared to someone who is respected for what she does and for the person she is. I am proud of that. Sometimes, there are comments on social media about how I’m being taken care of by my sister and brother-in-law, and how I have such an easy life. Let me make it clear that I take care of myself.”
Explaining how she regrets not being attentive towards her career in the industry, Shamita said she got the best possible break in Bollywood but she became very selective about the kind of work that came her way. The actor added that she didn’t understand ‘you are forgotten if you are not seen’. Shamita said she realised it too late that she should have kept working and ‘adhered to the rules of the industry.’ The ‘Sharara‘ girl revealed that she is thankful for her family background in the industry due to which she never had to face situations that other girls face while working in the industry. She was quoted saying, “People don’t cross their limits with me and I have to acknowledge that. I have seen how tough it is for a lot of girls who don’t have that kind of support in this industry.”
Shamita, who participated on reality shows Bigg Boss 3, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and Khatron Ke Khiladi among others, also revealed that she has decided to not take up any reality TV show now. She said she would work on a TV show but not the ones that require her to play ‘the same part for four years.’
