Always the one to put her foot down and voice her opinions, unapologetically, on topics that are close to her heart, actress Sonam Kapoor is one celebrity who doesn’t care a tuppence if she sounds politically incorrect. Coming in the limelight once again, not just for speaking her mind on fashion but also for including the plethora of elements that sum up the notion, Sonam’s latest video on Instagram talks about the inclusion of hijaab as a fashion trend and much more.
Taking to her social media handle, Sonam uploaded the video where she can be seen talking about the cultural connect between India and the Middle East and their fashion sense. In the video, Sonam can be seen dressed traditionally, sporting a fusion look of an onion pink-coloured saree teamed with heavy jewellery on the head and a pair of long earrings.
In the video brief that she shared, Sonam can be heard putting across some inclusive points, much needed to be addressed in today’s time. Asserting how essential it is to use your “platform or voice,” especially in this day and age, Sonam talked about the cultural similarities between India and The Middle East and said, “You know India has the second largest Muslim population in the world, right? Culturally we are very, very similar. Parda… which over here they wear hijaab, in India they wear it on their head… so lot of things, called something different but very similar and when the world opens up instead of seeing the differences, we can actually see the similarities between two cultures and maybe it can bring different cultures together.”
With regards to the world of fashion and her favourite topic, Sonam opined, “I believe even fashion is art. What trends you see in fashion, that’s what people are going through at that point emotionally, culturally and even politically. Fashion is very important, you know, contrary to what sometimes my dad says.”
Sharing the beautifully edited video with Arabic subtitles, Sonam captioned it as, “Fashion has the power to connect, explore and experience different worlds coming together. The Middle East and India have always shared a unique cultural relationship and I’m honoured to have been part of the incredible Fashion Trust Arabia Awards. @qatar_museums #QatarCreates #QatarIndia2019 #FTAPrize #fashion” (sic).
