Sridevi’s husband and producer Boney Kapoor has sent a legal notice to the makers of Sridevi Bungalow, the debut Bollywood film of Malayalam actress Priya Prakash Varrier. The teaser of the film featuring the popular wink girl was released yesterday, on January 15, to negative response from the audience. Now, the director of the film, Mambully confirmed the news to a website saying they received the legal notice a few days back. He told Cinestaan, “We received a legal notice from Mr Boney Kapoor last week. And we will face it. My film is a suspense thriller. I told him that Sridevi is a common name. My film’s character also happens to be an actress. We will face it”.
The teaser of Sridevi Bungalow shows Priya essaying the role of an actress. Her name in the film is Sridevi. The scenes in which a bathtub is shown and has the actress sipping on red wine, are quite similar to how superstar Sridevi dies in real life. However, no one from the film’s team has accepted it to be a story derived from the life of Bollywood superstar Sridevi.
Earlier, commenting on the film at the teaser launch event on January 13, Priya refused to reveal whether it’s actually a story about Sridevi, the real-life diva. She said, “You have to watch the film and decide if its a story related to her not. I will be playing the role of lady superstar Sridevi in the film”.
She also expressed her desire of being known beyond the tag of the ‘wink girl’ among the audience. Priya said she’s quite new to the industry but she wants to work hard enough for people to know she’s not just a ‘wink girl’. When asked about competing with actresses like Alia Bhatt now that she is making a foray into the Hindi film industry, Priya said, “First of all, I think they are all very senior actors and they are doing their work very well. I just want to do my thing and create a space for myself in this industry. People know me as a wink girl but what I want is that people accept me as an actress as a whole and not just about a wink”.
