The title song from Thackeray, a biopic on politician Balasaheb Thackeray, is out now. Featuring actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the titular role, the video shows the impression of the politician on the masses and his grandeur. The lyrics of the song, penned down by Dr Sunil Jogi, go like: “Aaya Re Sabkaa Baap Re, Kehte Hain Isko, Thackeray!” It has been sung by Nakash Aziz while the music is composed by Rohan Rohan.
The Thackeray biopic trails the life of Balasaheb Thackeray, one of the most celebrated political names in the country. The video was shared by Nawazuddin on his Twitter account. He wrote, “Aaya Re Aaya Re Sabkaa Baap Re, Kehte hain isko…Thackeray!#AayaReThackeray song out now@rautsanjay61 @AmritaRao @Viacom18Movies @ajitandhare @abhijitpanse @ThackerayFilm @NakashAzizOfficial @RohanAndrohan @ZeeMusicCompany” (sic)
While launching the song at an event in Mumbai today, on January 12, the producer of the film, Sanjay Raut, talked about the Censor Board certificate given to the film. Rumours were rife that the filmmakers were having a tough time having the CBFC pass the film. However, at the event, Sanjay said, “Who told you that CBFC has objection with the film? The Hindi version of the film has been cleared by CBFC. There is everything in the film which the audience wants to see.” He added, “I already made a statement that CBFC’s scissors is a very small thing for Balasaheb Thackeray. He was the one who used to put the censor on others.”
He also revealed that contrary to the larger perception, Balasheb Thackeray wasn’t an anti-Muslim man. He explained, “Bala saab was never an anti-Muslim man. He was a true patriot. He was one of those lovers of the nation and people’s person that never allowed caste and religion to come in between…” He went on to say, “People asked us why we cast Nawazuddin (Siddiqui) bhai as saab in the film. I would say that this is the biggest salute from us to the ideology of Bala saab. Also, note that Nakash Aziz sang the title song of ‘Thackeray’ because we believe that saab kept merit beyond religion.”
Thackeray has been written by journalist and MP Sanjay Raut and is directed by Abhijit Panse. The film stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Amrita Rao in lead roles. It will be released in Hindi, Marathi, and English languages on January 23.
