The trailer of Bal Thackeray biopic is out and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, in the lead role, has killed it, to say the least. ‘Nailed it’ would be an understatement for the refined talents of the actor. Simply titled Thackeray, the movie is based on the life of the controversial yet influential politician Balasaheb Thackeray, the founder of the political party – Shiv Sena. While the trailer gives a peek into the life of Bal Thackeray and his rise in the Maharashtra political circuit, Nawazuddin Siddiqui adds several feathers together in his cap of success as he plays the politician.
Though this is not the first time that Nawazuddin is essaying a role in a biopic yet it is quite intriguing to see one actor play three different real-life characters in a span of three years. The movie is already expected to be controversial given the personality of its protagonist, Bal Thackery but while the trailer is out today, we can safely comment on the cinematography, camera work and the background score, all of which look is amazingly polished and super clean. The Manto star had to evidently polish his Marathi accent for the role and his hard work for the biopic is evocative from the trailer.
Previously, Nawazuddin has featured in two other biopics, playing Dashrath Manjhi in Manjhi – The Mountain Man and Saadat Hasan Manto in Manto, both of which won him a plethora of appreciation from the critics and public alike. Also starring Amrita Rao in the role of Balasaheb’s wife, Thackrey has been written by journalist and Member of Parliament Sanjay Raut and directed by Abhijit Panse. Slated to release on January 25, the film has been shot in Hindi and Marathi and will be dubbed in English.
