Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan’s Thugs of Hindostan, that was supposed to be one of the successful movies of the year, did not receive a good response from the audience. The film garnered Rs 134.95 crore in the first week and then the numbers dropped to Rs 8.79 crore in the second week, making it a total collection of Rs 143.74 crore. Even though it failed in attracting the audience, it still has a chance to touch the Rs 150 crore mark with no major releases this week.

Film and trade analyst, Taran Adarsh, took the numbers to Twitter and wrote, “#ThugsOfHindostan biz at a glance… Week 1: ₹ 134.95 cr [8 days; released on Thu] Week 2: ₹ 8.79 cr Total: ₹ 143.74 cr Decline in Week 2 [vis-à-vis Week 1]: 93.49% Hindi version”.

Since the film did not receive good reviews as well, Shah Rukh Khan came to Aamir’s rescue and in a recent interview with The Telegraph, he said, “Mr Bachchan and Aamir have been people who have constantly contributed to the excellence of cinema. The greatest contribution to Hindi cinema in the last 10 years has been from Aamir, and with Amitji, it’s been even longer. Now if a film of theirs (Thugs of Hindostan) doesn’t reach the level that you expected it to, does it take away from what they have done for cinema?”.

The movie, which was written and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, and produced by Aditya Chopra under his banner Yash Raj Films, also starred Katrina Kaif, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Lloyd Owen among others.

The film is set in 1795, and is about a band of thugs that take on the British East India Company and tries to free India from its grip, got much attention before its release, but most who have watched it says that it is engrossing only in the first hour and after that it’s a boring affair. Some, however, have come to the defence of the movie, asking for it to be given a chance.
