It seems comedy Total Dhamaal is not going to slow down anytime soon at the box office, and in fact, showed an upward trend in the third week. The movie, starring Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Johnny Lever, Arshad Warsi, Jaaved Jaaferi, Riteish Deshmukh and Sanjay Mishra, had earned Rs 1.70 crore on March 8 and on March 9 it had minted Rs 2.76 crore.

Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh had in tweet stated that the movie witnessed an upward trend on the third Saturday thanks to families and kids who are still patronising it. The movie has so far earned Rs 137.06 crore at the box office.

The film, which had grossed Rs 200 crore worldwide in twelve days, has become the third highest grossing Bollywood film of 2019.

Directed and co-produced by Indra Kumar, the movie is the third installment of the Dhamaal film series and is a sequel to 2011’s Double Dhamaal. It had got off to a good start at the box office when it was released on February 22, minting Rs 16.50 crore. The movie, which is all about chasing money, is a slapstick comedy loosely borrowed from 1963 Hollywood film It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.

Earlier, commenting on critics usually calling films like Total Dhamaal ‘brainless’, Ajay told PTI, “I don’t know why they say it is brainless. It is not easy to make people laugh. Today in our country or all over the world, comedians are the biggest stars. Like here in India, we have Kapil Sharma. It needs intelligence to make people laugh, you just can’t make faces and make people laugh.”

It remains to be seen if the movie will do even better business by the end of the weekend.
