The news of US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania’s visit to India has been creating waves across the country since the past week and ever since they arrived in Ahmedabad on Monday, fans have been waiting on the edge for the latest updates. Flocking the Motera Stadium for the Namaste Trump event, the crowd of fans roared as Trump praised Bollywood and referred to Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s rom-com, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.

Lauding Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts, Trump hailed India as “the largest democracy” and went on to express how people across the world are in awe of all that the country has to offer. “All over the planet people take great joy in watching Bollywood films, bhangra, and classic films like DDLJ and Sholay,” Trump asserted while referring to Bollywood. Unable to contain their excitement, the crowd was seen roaring wild with agreement.

Truly, DDLJ has fans from different parts of the world including Africa, China, Netherlands where the rom-com’s songs have been recreated and videos of the same have gone viral in a second. It was the directorial debut of iconic director Yash Chopra’s young son Aditya Chopra, starring young stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol.

Although everybody loved the script of the movie, none of the cast and crew thought it would go down in cinematic history as one of the most iconic Bollywood movies of all time. Last year in October, when the movie clocked 24 years, a DDLJ fan from Paris broke the Internet for his soulful voice and playing the tune of the song, Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam, with his flute.

Shah Rukh Khan had reacted to his talent on Twitter. SRK shared the video on the micro-blogging site and had captioned it, “Suddenly just…missed Yashji. Maybe it’s the singer’s cap? (sic).”

While SRK and Kajol’s reaction to Trump’s speech is awaited, the US President called India a creative hub and marveled at how over 2,000 movies from Bollywood have been created. “There are so many communities and languages, you all unite as one great Indian nation,” he said.

He even mentioned “great cricketers”, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli in his speech, winning fans’ attention instantly before promising a “very big trade deal” to be sealed between India and the US.
