Sriram Raghavan‘s AndhaDhun has created a storm at the Box Office in China. Titled Piano Player, it has emerged as the third highest grossing Hindi film in China and continues to attract the audience to theatres. Now, Tabu who plays the main antagonist in the film talked to a daily about what’s keeping the audience engaged in AndhaDhun. Expressing her happiness over being a part of the film, the actor said that it’s ‘gratifying’ to see her film getting global recognition.

Tabu talked to Mid-Day in her latest interview and mentioned that what’s working in AndhaDhun‘s favour is its universal appeal. The actor explained that the characters in the film are not ‘culturally’ bound and the ‘situations and emotions are real.’ Tabu said that the story of the film is such that it leaves a viewer thinking about it for long. She was quoted by the daily saying, “When AndhaDhun released here, we saw how people were talking about the end for months. It’s almost as if the audience had become investigators, which is so rare.”

In her career of over 25 years in the film industry, this is the first time that a film starring Tabu has received wide recognition in China. She called it a ‘huge validation.’ Tabu said that when a film gets such response, it opens many doors for an artiste which is not just restricted to work. The film was also screened at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles. Describing the audience’s reaction there, she told the daily, “Sriram and I were watching the film with the audience, which was a mix of Indian and western people. They were gasping, shrieking and even laughing at various situations in the film.”

Apart from Tabu, AndhaDhun also features Ayushmann Khurrana and Radhika Apte in important roles. The team of the film bagged many awards in India as well.
