The Tamil remake of Shoojit Sircar‘s Bollywood movie, Pink, finally gets a release date and fans can’t be more excited. Produced by Boney Kapoor, the movie will see South actor Ajith Kumar stepping into the shoes of the character played by megastar Amitabh Bachchan in the Hindi version of the movie.

Directed by acclaimed Bengali director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, Pink followed three women — Minal, Falak and Andrea — as they fight in the court of law and public opinion against victim blaming and the unfair definitions of womanhood in Indian society. The movie which focused on women’s rights and dignity, not just won hearts but also had a successful run in theatres and scored well at the Box Office.

While actresses Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Andrea Tariang played the lead heroines in the Hindi version, actresses Shraddha Srinath, Andrea Tariang and Abhirami Iyer will play the lead in the Tamil remake of the critically acclaimed movie. Slated to release on August 10, the movie also stars actress Vidya Balan, who makes a special appearance.

Taking to his Instagram account, Indian film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh, shared the news which read, “Release date confirmed… #Tamil remake of #Pink, titled #NerkondaPaarvai, starring Ajith Kumar, to release on 10 Aug 2019… Vidya Balan in special appearance… Currently being filmed in #Hyderabad… Directed by H Vinoth… Produced by Boney Kapoor.” (sic)

Pink was honoured as the Best Film on Social Issues at the National Film Awards 2017. The Shoojit Sircar film was made to spread awareness on the importance of consent. The film created waves across the nation since it’s released and received a lot of appreciation as well.
