After entertaining viewers for almost 21 years, India’s longest running TV show, CID is reportedly going off air. This comes as a great shock because the show has a loyal fan following. It was doing well and people never thought that it will bid goodbye.
According to a report in TellyChakkar, the last episode will be aired on October 27. The show has entertained people for years and the USP was its star cast. From Shivaji Satam as ACP Pradyuman to Aditya Shrivastav, Dayanand Shetty as Abhijeet and Daya, all the actors worked very hard to keep the audience glued to the small screen.
After the news surfaced on social media, many fan groups demanded not to shut down the show.
The last episode was aired on July 22, and since then, the show suddenly vanished from the small screen. Earlier a source told India Today, “It’s a highly competitive industry and there are other new shows that are getting better ratings than CID. But there is a loyal viewership attached to the show, which should not be ignored. We are highly hopeful that CID will return with a bang.”
However, the makers have not officially announced anything.
From the past few months, the changing time slot was one of the reasons for the show’s falling TRP.
CID has completed over 1546 episodes. It is bankrolled by B. P. Singh and Pradeep Uppoor under the banner of Fireworks Productions.
When the show went on air in 1998, it ruled the TRP charts for years. There were many crime thrillers like Byomkesh Bakshi, Karamchand and Commander but none of them enjoyed consistently high ratings for many years at stretch.
Along with winning many awards, CID also made a world record. The team continuously shot for 111 minutes and entered as ‘TV show–longest continual shot’ in the Limca book of world record.
