Confirmed! Irrfan Khan’s Hindi Medium Sequel To Go On Floors In August
The sequel is finally here.
As we know that Bhushan Kumar (T-Series head) and Dinesh Vijan (founder of Maddock Films) are all set to collaborate again for a sequel of their 2017 critical and commercial success Hindi Medium starring Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar, the latest reports suggest that the film is all set to go on floors in August. Reportedly, Kumar and Vijan have signed a multiple-movie deal, which will include a sequel to hit Hindi Medium.

Hindi Medium, which bagged the Best Film Award and the actor the Filmfare Best Actor Award, will take off with a new director and new co-actors. While Irrfan will continue with his role of Raj Batra, a rich Delhi-based businessman, who studied in a Hindi Medium school but wants his 5-year old daughter, Pia (played by Dishita Sehgal), to be admitted to one of the top English schools in Delhi, Pakistani actress Saba Qamar, who played his wife Mita won’t be a part of the cast and neither will Dishita Sehgal, who played her daughter Pia.
However, despite the embargo on Pakistani artists after the Uri attacks of September 2016, Saba was hoping to be a part of the sequel. In a statement to a Pakistani daily, the actress had expressed, “After the massive success of Hindi Medium, the producers are all set for a sequel. I hope Irrfan and I get to work in the second instalment of the blockbuster.” ALSO READ: Hindi Medium Actress Saba Qamar Breaks Down While Talking About Humiliation She Faced For Being A Pakistani (Video)
Speaking about the sequel, in a statement to Mumbai Mirror, a source close to the development said, “The story flash-forwards by a decade so fiveyear-old Pia will be in her teens now, around 15-16 years. The story will be a fresh take on the Indian educational system with little reference to the original.” Well, if you’re wondering that Saba and Dishita are only people who have been replaced then you are wrong.
Even the director Saket Chaudhary, who helmed the first part and who is known to have worked on films like Pyaar Ke Side Effects and Shaadi Ke Side Effects, has been omitted. “I have no idea about the film, I’m not a part of it,” Saket Chaudhary informed the daily. Earlier producer Bhushan Kumar, in one of his interviews, had said, “The script is ready and we are starting pre-production of the film. Hindi Medium was my first award as a producer. People loved the film and Irrfan is also ready.” Watch this space for further updates.
