Deepika Padukone has been avoiding signing any films or confirming her availability to filmmakers who are approaching her. The reason is that she is immersed completely in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati. The film’s delay, caused due to some inadvertent instances, has taken more time than Deepika thought and this has cost her dear.
The actress, who made a successful Hollywood debut earlier this year with xXx: Return of Xander Cage, had some producers from the west lining up to sign her. We hear one big studio from Hollywood approached the actress for a meaty role as one of the leads in a film with an ensemble cast. However, Deepika had to say a ‘no’ to the offer despite her reluctance. There was also buzz in the industry that the actress lost out on the role since she and the makers of the film couldn’t reach an agreement about her remuneration. However, a source privy to the developments informs India.com, “Deepika was excited about the opportunity of working with the studio and the role that they offered. It would have given her another chance to showcase her acting talent, this time in romantic-drama film.” Talking about why the deal couldn’t be worked out, the source said. “She had to let go of the offer since the producers wanted to start filming this year and start workshops for the actors from August onwards. Since Deep is still neck deep into Padmavati, she wouldn’t have been able to take out time and therefore gave it a pass.”
Does the actress regret the unfortunate timing? “Not at all. She has full faith in Padmavati and Bollywood is her priority. In such a scenario it is a no-brainer that she has chosen and will always chose Bollywood over Hollywood,” reveals the source further.
Deepika has been shooting for her part in Bhansali’s Padmavati the past few months along with Shahid Kapoor. The film’s schedule, where the team was supposed to shoot with Ranveer Singh, is currently on hold due to the ongoing cine workers’ strike.
