Now that Sanjay Dutt is out of prison and his biopic, Sanju, is slated for release on June 29, the question that everyone has for filmmaker Rajkummar Hirani is that –“When will the next Munna Bhai film happen?” After all, Munna Bhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munna Bhai – will forever remain as the best films Hirani has ever made. Well, much to our happiness, the filmmaker finally answered this question in a recent interview with Outlook. He said, “We wanted to do the third Munna Bhai film and even wrote a lot of it, but we were not able to match the script with the first two. Now, I have found something, though we still have to write it.” It was India.com that had exclusively reported last year that the film will go on floors this year, after Sanju would hit screens, and that Sanju Baba was very much on board

In a previous interview with PTI, Abhijat Joshi (the co-writer of both Munna Bhai films), had talked about the third part. “The toughest thing is to match up to what we did in Lage Raho Munna Bhai. We are looking at something that will match the standards of ‘Lage Raho…’. We have an idea in place. It is something new and different,” said Abhijat.

That Sanjay Dutt wanted to make his Bollywood comeback with a Munnabhai film is now a known fact, but Hirani had prior commitments, the prominent one being Ranbir Kapoor’s Sanju,  a biopic on Sanjay Dutt’s life. Well, looks like after Sanju hits screens, Hirani may seriously sit with the script and see it to fruition. Meanwhile, the filmmaker spoke about the success of both the films and said, “We were all new and naive at the time. While we were filming Munna Bhai MBBS, we didn’t think we were doing some kind of mainstream cinema. I only knew that I was doing a different kind of cinema. More than its commercial success, it fetched us a lot of love and affection from people. I was happy that my family and friends saw it. That joy itself was enough. Never in my life had I thought of anything like this.”  Well, we can’t wait for a the third Munnabhai film. What about you?
