The case of Malayalam superstar Dileep (born as Gopalakrishnan Padmanabhan Pillai), who was arrested in connection with the abduction of a popular actress in February, is getting murkier with every passing day. Yesterday, his bail plea was dismissed by the local court after which he was taken to a 2-day police custody. As soon as the news came out, the Film Employees Federation of Kerala expelled the actor from the association. There was also an emergency meeting at Mammootty’s residence on Tuesday, during which Dileep’s primary membership in Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) was also cancelled. Until Dileeps’ arrest the association had defended him and even pronounced him to be innocent, but when the cops got strong evidence against him, they decided to terminate his membership from AMMA.

The whole of Mollywood is shocked as some actors who were said to be close to Dileep have reacted to the horrifying news.

“The industry has earned a bad reputation now and it will affect everyone involved. An issue that could have been solved within four walls has lead to vengeance and this utter mess,” Mamta Mohandas, an actor known to be close to Dileep was quoted by Manorama News. Actor Jayaram, who is more close to Dileep than anyone else in the industry is also pained by how the events have unfolded. “I was more close to him than most people in the industry. Thirty three years ago, he introduced himself to me outside Ernakulam Kalabhavan and said ‘Hello, I am Gopalakrishnan, I am your fan.'”

While Navya Nair, who made her debut opposite Dileep was quoted by Asianet News as saying, “I had believed that he was a good man, but now I am pained. It was shocking. I have known many things that happen in the industry, but nothing can be compared to this. I respect the survivor not just for filing the complaint, but for sticking to her stand. She has not withdrawn from her stand because of her honesty. I salute her.”

Asif Ali, another actor, who is a friend of the victim said that he will never ever work with him even after all of this is over. “He did something that a man should never do to a woman. Even when all this is over, I don’t think I can work with him, I have mentally distanced from him. I have seen her sorrow. Nothing can change what happened,” he was quoted by Reporter Live.

The police decided to arrest Dileep based on the evidence that they found over the abduction of the young actress on February 17 when she was travelling from Thrissur to Kochi by road. Reportedly, after almost two hours she was dumped near the house of director-turned-actor Lal, who immediately informed the cops.

Reports also suggest that the actress came under Dileep’s radar since 2013 after ‘meddling in his affairs’. The actress allegedly informed about Dileep’s affair with his current wife, actress Kavya Madhavan to his then wife Manju Warrier (married from 1998 to 2015). This didn’t go down well with Dileep, who planned this ‘revenge’ on the actress and organised the abduction, according to rape accused Pulsar Suni aka Sunil, who has revealed in his statement that Dileep asked him to shoot explicit visuals of the actress whilst sexually assaulting her. He promised Suni a ransom of Rs 1.5 crore for the same.
