We met the cool cat Alia Bhatt for an exclusive interview for her new movie Udta Punjab, and guess what she told us! We asked Alia if her opinion on the latest controversial video by comedian Tanmay Bhat was indeed what it was, and she retracted her statement! Alia had earlier supported Tanmay for creating the Snapchat video that made fun of Indian legends Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar. But when we questioned her, Alia had already changed her mind about the video. She had second thoughts about it and she admitted that her statement was made in a hurry. Here’s what she said!

“When I was first asked about it, I had no idea as to what it was about. So the response I gave as not really a learned one. After reviewing it for the past few days, I I feel there’s a lot being said already about it. But I feel that anybody is justified in their opinion – those who like the joke or not. I still feel that legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar can let anybody tamper with their stardom. They are icons and are very celebrated artistes (she meant Sachin the player) in our fraternity, country, life – all over the world, in fact. Nobody can mess with that,” Alia she told India.com, confessing that she stated her opinion in a hurry earlier.

“It’s actually quite interesting to see that they (Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar) have such a big fanfollowing and support. But I still feel that a lot of attention is being given to it. So maybe we should just lay-off the attention. I don’t think that’s anything to talk about really,” she said.

But we love you, Alia, for having the guts to make the statement and then more guts to retract. We know you starred in the All India Bakchod aka AIB video Alia Bhatt – Genius of the Year that gave a befitting reply to your detractors, and that Tanmay Bhat and the gang are your friends. But you still said something that was not in support of them without naming anybody. And just like your Udta Punjab co-star Shahid Kapoor, you now agree that our icons are not to be touched! Here’s what Shahid had to say about the Tanmay Bhatt video: Shahid Kapoor reacts to the Tanmay Bhat video controversy!

Alia had earlier said, “What are you saying? Tanmay also makes you laugh. Look at his funny videos. Unnke videos bahot funny hai!” as reported in the media. Thanks to India.com, now you know that Alia is honest enough to change her stance on a sensitive issue.

Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor, another friend of Tanmay Bhat, had also supported him. She’d said on Twitter, “Dear @thetanmay ,being your friend I know what you say and do is never to offend, but to make people laugh..”, adding, “Don’t you guys think there are issues that are more important than @thetanmay snapchat jokes??? I’m in shock with this over reaction!”

Keep watching this space for the exclusive Alia Bhatt interview, where she gets talking about her movies, her roles, her cats and even what hobby she wants to take up!
