Controversial show Pehredaar Piya Ki which airs on Sony TV has finally gone off air. Ever since the show premiered, it was surrounded by controversies as the plot of the show depicted a 10-year old Ratan (Affan Khan) getting married to a 19-year old Diya (Tejaswi Prakash Wayangankar). Sony TV has finally decided to pull the plug and has taken it off air.
When Hindustan Times got in touch with Jiten Lalwani, who is a part of Pehredaar Piya Ki, he said “Yes. If the episode hasn’t aired then you know the news is true.” Suyyash Rai too who was a part of the show was disappointed with Pehredaar Piya Ki going off air. He was quoted saying, “If this is happening, then I am shocked. I was waiting to re-enter the show after the leap. Tejaswi is a close friend so I wanted to be a support to her and work with her. I wanted the show to do well as a lot of hard work goes into a show when it is launched. So many people including technicians will lose their jobs when the show shuts,” he said.
Earlier the show was shifted from the 8:30 pm slot to the 10 pm one due to the content of the show. Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC) asked the channel to change the time slot as well as run a disclaimer which stated that it does not promote child marriage. After a lot of protests and criticism, the makers of Pehredaar Piya Ki also announced a 12-year leap. With this, Ratan would be 21 and thus of a marriageable age.
