Set in Kashmir, the story of Abhishek Kapoor’s Fitoor looks intriguing. The movie is based on Charles Dickens’ novel ‘Great Expectations’ and also stars Tabu in pivotal role. The movie stars Aditya Roy Kapur and Katrina Kaif in lead roles who share the screen space for the first time. Does it live up to the expectations of viewers? Let’s find that out.
The first half of the film introduces a young boy Noor Nizami (Aditya Roy Kapur) who falls in love with Fidraus (Katrina Kaif) who is Begum Hazrat’s (Tabu) daughter. However, Fidraus leaves Kashmir and is sent to Delhi to become an artist. Fidraus grows up to be an incredibly beautiful woman. Seasons change, years pass by but Noor’s unconidtional love for Fidraus still remains the same, and when he sees her at a party in Delhi, everything comes to a standstill and he realizes that even after so many years, he still cannot take his eyes off her. Fitoor means obsession, and the story of the film revolves around Noor’s obsession, passion for Fidraus. Katrina and Aditya look really HOT together but if you thought there was more to their love story in Fitoor, you got it all wrong. Although they have both done a fair job portraying Noor and Fidraus, it is Tabu who steals the show. She plays the role of Begum Hazrat, who has been betrayed in the past which makes her a man-hater. She aims at ruining Noor and Firdaus’ love story because of her bitter experience in the past. She plots punishment on Noor and Firdaus’ young, innocent love. It is only because of Tabu and the hauntingly beautiful backdrop of Kashmir that keeps you glued to the silver screen right till the end. Tabu possesses a certain jauntiness in the way she delivers dialogues which makes it highly impossible for someone else to play the character any better. All in all, Fitoor looks highly enchanting but the plot only disappoints as the movie inches closer to the end. The film does not live upto the expectations.
