Director Abhinay Deo’s Force 2 is a sequel to the 2011 hit film Force. While the original film starred the ever beefy and formidable John Abraham with Genelia D’Souza as his leading lady and Vidyut Jamwal as his nemesis, the sequel Force 2 stars the curvy beauty Sonakshi Sinha opposite John Abraham. Mardaani famed Tahir Raj Bhasin is the deliciously evil villain in Force 2. Abhinay Deo’s makes a sincere effort with Force 2 and the lead cast tries very hard to do justice to the plot. There are many things to like in Force 2, and then there are many things that will disappoint you. So, watching Force 2 is like taking a calculated risk. We assure that you won’t get bored out of your skull but the film suffers a setback post interval. If you are a lover of action and a die-hard fan of John Abraham (or mostly of his biceps) then you need to watch Force 2, otherwise, skip it. Read our review of Force 2 and make a choice from the other two major films releasing this week, Tum Bin 2 and Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.

The first half of Force 2 comes across as well executed and entertaining but the film suffers from a bad climax. The story is thrilling but it is not gripping till the end. ACP Yashvardhan (John Abraham) and RAW agent KK (Sonakshi Sinha) join forces to curb the killings of RAW agents in China (this is the reason the film was not allowed to be shot in China!). Tahir Raj Bhasin plays the mastermind and the ACP and KK are on a trial to catch the villain and save the Indian RAW spies.

Force 2 starts off with straightaway gives us a lowdown on the plot at hand and introduction of the hot, hot, hot John Abraham. This opening scene is every woman’s fantasy, whistles guaranteed for this one. Are you a fan of watching gorgeous flexed biceps on screen? Can’t get enough of John? Is he still your teenage dream? Then, you would be sure impressed with his entry for he looks like every bit of six feet of chocolate ice cream (as Twinkle Khanna would put it). He tries really hard to emote and he is quite decent too. The first half is gripping and the twist prior to the interval will pique your interest. Tahir Raj Bhasin does what he can do the best. Patronise the ‘good cops’ John and Sonakshi and be deliciously evil. There is a vulnerable side to his villainous side which is emoted perfectly well through this dewy, intense gaze and the way his evil half smiles. The makers have also burrowed from Quentin Tarantino when they show John beat up the baddies against the backdrop of sweet music played by Bhasin on mouth organ.  But we have seen all this and more in Mardaani. The action sequences are good and shot well. Are you a fan of James Bond? Then you will like it. Overall, the movie is a decent attempt if you are not expecting anything brilliant.

What’s not

Well, to start with the movie drags on in the second half, the climax too could have been better. There is melodrama, in our opinion the film could have been better towards it. The major downside of the film is Sonakshi Sinha.  She moves listlessly through the movie, without having a clue. Her portrayal was supposed to be a ‘tough cop’ but sadly, that is not the case. Here is a suggestion to all the Indian filmmakers. Just because your actress wears power suits it doesn’t automatically make her powerful. Her character (KK ) is ‘saved’ by John’s ACP Yashvardhan the effort to portray her as a daredevil seems lost there. We wish there was more meat to her character.
