The May 6 weekend’s big Friday movie releases are all big banner films, including Captain America: Civil War, 1920 London, One Night Stand, Traffic, Zorawar and 24. One is Marvel’s Hollywood film, then there are Bollywood films of Sunny Leone, Manoj Bajpayee and Vikram Bhatt; a Yo Yo Honey Singh Punjabi and another Tamil one starring Suriya.

What film are you waiting to watch first day, first show? Let’s take a look at what each film is about – the story, the cast, the songs, the trailer and box office prediction.

Captain America: Civil War

This is the movie of the week, or probably the month! A huge Hollywood release, Captain America: Civil War will definitely beat the sh** of movies releasing in India on May 6. Directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, who also directed  Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the new movie it is slated to be one of the biggest box office grossers of 2016. It is for Avengers fans for sure, and also Iron Man. The story is that Captain America (Chris Evans) believes his kind (superheroes, that is) should be given the freedom to protect humanity without the interference of government and its agencies. But our Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) begs to differ, and they are pitted against each other. Adding to the mayhem will be Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) who have to choose between the two. What fun on screen!

One Night Stand

The unique selling proposition of One Night Stand is obviously Sunny Leone. The oomph factor of the former pornstar is unmatched as yet in India. She is still the most searched person on Google India, beating the likes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. Most of Sunny Leone’s movies in Bollywood or south India have been with some sexual or titillating content, whether her full fledged roles or her item songs. She is the best in it, and has raised the hotness quotient of One Night Stand by leaps and bounds. People are curious about this movie but what may work against it is that it is not about a one-night stand – it is what happens after it, especially if you are married. But Sunny Leone fans may just make it work at the box office, like Ek Paheli Leela. One Night Stand also has good music and the songs are chartbusters. The movie is directed by Jasmine Moses D’Souza and stars Sunny Leone, Tanuj Virwani and Nyra Banerjee.

1920 London

Don’t go by the fact that Vikram Bhatt’s earlier 1920 or other horror films were duds. The new 1029 instalment’s trailer has got more than 4,708,494 views on YouTube and is sure to make more money than Sunny Leone’s One Night Stand. A woman (Meera Chopra) seeks help from a spiritual healer (Sharman Joshi) after her husband becomes possessed by evil.

Zorawar

Yo Yo Honey Singh the rapper is now an actor. Zorawar is his Punjabi debut and a big one at that. The film has his songs, of course (not that great, though). But the movie will be a hit at the box office in Punjab and nearby territories, where Honey Singh is worshipped. The film may not work in other parts of India. Strictly for Yo Yo fans!

24

Nopes, that’s not Anil Kapoor’s television show 24. It’s a Tamil movie starring Suriya and it has a fantastic trailer. 24 the movie has mass appeal and if liked on the first day by audiences and critics, will likely have a blockbuster run. Suriya’s fan-following will ensure that! Let’s hope the plot and direction do so, too. Plus, the heroine is Samantha and the music is by Academy Award-winning A R Rahman.

Traffic

Manoj Bajpayee stars in the remake of Malayalam movie that is based on a true story where a girl’s life is to be saved through an organ transplant and all that transpires in between. The original was directed by the late Rajesh Pillai, who also directed the Hindi version. The film had versions in Tamil and Kannada. The Hindi version is slated to be a good thriller as well. Do let us know what movie you are keen to watch, and send us your review after you have watched it!
