When is this going to stop? HBO needs to find a way to stop these hackers from leaking episode after episode of one of the most popular American television shows, Game of Thrones. Yet again, the hackers, who earlier this month had demanded $250,000 in bitcoins to stop, have once again threatened to leak the finale episode of season 7. After leaking fourth episode ‘Spoils of War’ and its script, the fifth episode, titled ‘Eastwatch’ and the sixth episode ‘Beyond The Wall’, now the hackers have returned with a new threat.
Reportedly, the hackers’ group – ‘Mr Smith Group’, who are responsible to have stolen 1.5 terabytes of information from HBO’s servers and claimed that they have access to HBO’s social media handles, in an email to Mashable, said, “Be ready for GOT S& E6 &E7 as soon as possible.”
Yes, the hackers are giving the channel sleepless nights. But according to a leading entertainment portal, HBO, in a statement to Mashable expressed their disinterest in playing along, said, “We are not in communication with the hacker and we’re not going to comment every time a new piece of information is released,” They further went on to add, “It has been widely reported that there was a cyber incident at HBO. The hacker may continue to drop bits and pieces of stolen information in an attempt to generate media attention. That’s a game we’re not going to participate in.” This totally makes sense.
Recently reports in Business Insider, suggested that episode 7 of Game of Thrones Season 7 has already been leaked. Although, an HBO representative has said that hey have no knowledge of the episode 7 leak yet. Also, according to Entertainment Weekly, an anonymous email was sent to reporters who were following the hacking incident. The message read, “Hi to all mankind, The greatest leak of cyberspace era is happening. What’s its name? Oh, I forget to tell. It’s HBO and ‘Game of Thrones’……!!!!!! You are lucky to be the first pioneers to witness and download the leak. Enjoy it & spread the words. Whoever spreads well, we will have an interview with him. HBO is falling.”
