Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is yet again in the news, thanks to his latest feature film God, Sex and Truth. The trouble for Varma does not seem to end. According to latest reports, Hyderabad police booked filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma for obscenity and for allegedly insulting the modesty of a woman, on a complaint by a social activist.

A case has been registered against him under sections 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of Indian Penal Code and 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 (Punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form).

Varma has been booked for promoting pornography as making a pornographic film in India is not legal and therefore, the hotel where the film was shot might also face legal charges. However, on being questioned by the Hyderabad police over the same, RGV maintained that he is not shooting the film in India but abroad.

According to a report in a local paper, an activist has claimed that Varma has filmed God, Sex and Truth in Hyderabad and not in Europe. She further claimed that she has enough evidence to prove the same. Reports suggest that the activist has pictures, which support her claim that the porn star had flown down to Hyderabad for the shoot. Also, in a few BTS (behind the scenes) pictures, RGV’s close friends from Tollywood can be seen posing. Meanwhile, amidst the protests against his film, RGV took to his Twitter handle to write, “People blaming me for saying derogatory things, called me PERVERT,PSYCHO, TERRORIST and I should be SHOT. Anyways my lawyers are initiating the necessary action for law to take its own course and I am further not going to speak on matters under investigation and subjudice (sic).”

Helmed by Ram Gopal Varma, God, Sex and Truth is a 2018 film starring an American pornographic actress Mia Malkova. The docu-drama, that is bankrolled by Strike Force LLC, USA, is a short documentary about sex. The music for  RGV’s upcoming film is scored by MM Keeravani, who was known as MM Kreem for his Hindi compositions.
