Actor Akshay Kumar’s Gold that hit the silver screens on Independence Day, received a good response in India. Now, it has become the first ever Bollywood movie to release in Saudi Arabia. Khiladi Kumar himself shared the news on social media. After Rajinikanth’s hit social drama, Kaala, Reema Kagti’s movie is the second film to get a release in the Gulf country.
Akshay took to the micro-blogging site, Twitter and wrote, “The story of India’s first Gold medal victory for the first time in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Happy to share, #Gold is the first ever Bollywood movie to release in the Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia, in cinemas from today! @excelmovies @ZeeStudiosInt.”

In India, the film fought the box office battle with John Abraham starrer Satyameva Jayate. Despite clash, Gold entered the coveted Rs 100 cr club. Earlier, Akshay’s Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Jolly LLB 2, Housefull 3, Airlift, Rustom, Rowdy Rathore, Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty also made it to the coveted club.
Gold is based on India’s first Olympic gold medal after independence. Telly actress Mouni Roy made her debut with the film. The project was bankrolled by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment and also featured Amit Sadh, Kunal Kapoor and Vineet Singh in pivotal roles.
