The third installment of the Masti series, Great Grand Masti, released in theatres today. The makers have added a new twist in the third part of the adult comedy by introducing a ‘hot’ ghost character. Actors Riteish Deshmukh, Aftab Shivdasani and Vivek Oberoi retain their characters as Amar, Prem and Meet from the earlier films Masti and Grand Masti. However, they get to romance four new hotties! The four girls are Urvashi Rautela, Pooja Bose, Mishti Chakraborty and Shraddha Das, apart from the cameo by Sonali Raut that is a bonus. The movie landed in huge trouble after its censor copy was leaked online weeks before its official release in theatres. Much to everyone’s surprise, Great Grand Masti was available for free download on torrent sites. To avoid further damage to the film’s earnings, the makers planned to release it a week before its planned date of July 22.
So, is Great Grand Masti worth watching in the theatres?
Since most lovers of adult comedies have already watched Masti (2004) and Grand Masti (2013), it is quite easy to make out the plot of Great Grand Masti. The third part too revolves around Amar, Prem and Meet’s desperate attempt to get some masti for their bored married lives, but which lands them in a huge mess. So, all we have to look out for while watching Great Grand Masti is how entertaining the trio’s thirst for lust turns out to be.
Ritiesh, Aftab and Vivek promised to deliver greater and grander masti this time and they have lived up to the expectations. Although there is not much you can expect from a film of this genre, we did get entertained throughout the showtime. The trio excels in their act of getting naughty just to find some fun out of their reckless married life. Now, when you do the same thing for the third time, you are expected to deliver and they do. Urvashi Rautela is indeed eye candy in this monotonous sex comedy. She is uber sexy and everyone would want to watch the film for her, definitely! She plays the role of a sex-lusting ghost, Ragini, who died at a very young age craving for love. So now it’s her ghost that lingers around Amar’s pushtaini haveli or ancestral house, which he wants to sell off. She is desperately waiting for a man’s love for nearly 50 years now and her search comes to an end with the arrival these three musketeers. So, Great Grand Masti is all about Ragini’s desperate attempt to have sex with one of them and take his soul with her. You have to watch the film to see if she succeeds in her motto or not! All the actors except the wives, Mishti, Pooja and Shraddha, have put their best foot forward. Urvashi Rautela the Miss Diva in real life shines as the sexy and desperate ghost in Great Grand Masti. Although she has worked in quite a few films in the past, including the recently released Sanam Re, the hot babe always went unnoticed. She looks lovely and dances well too in Great Grand Masti, but needs to work on her acting skills.
Ritiesh Deshmukh has been seen doing a lot of comedy films, especially sex comedies, so we are quite used to seeing him making weird faces and giving funny expressions. But after films like the Housefull series, the Masti series and Humshakals, in Great Grand Masti he has kept his dignity and that is good. But we don’t remember the last time we saw Aftab and Vivek doing something memorable on screen after Grand Masti. Looks like they have decided to be a part of the Masti franchise only (or no other big filmmaker wants to sign them for that matter).
Great Grand Masti is worth a watch simply for the sensuous Urvashi Rautela. The film unlike its predecessors doesn’t have much adult jokes (specially the unnecessary ones). But that doesn’t make it a family film either. Songs and music of the film are quite entertaining and live up to the mood of the film. Ace actors Usha Nadkarni and Sanjay Mishra add spark to the film in their own little ways. The plot of the film, where the three married men look out to have fun but come back to their respective wives in the end, is quite redundant. The story takes a dip down post interval but somehow the makers manage to regain our interest with some unexpected twists in the climax.
If you are still reeling from the awful experience of watching Housefull 3 and want to get some light fun this weekend, then Great Grand Masti must be on your weekend’s To Do list. Director Indra Kumar, as promised has lived up to the film’s title and makes sure that you get entertained till the end.
Rating: 3 stars.
