Gurmeet Choudhary is gearing up for the release of his third film in Bollywood, Laali Ki Shaadi Mein Laaddoo Deewana. The actor for the first time plays a non-erotic role on the silver screen and is glad to have bagged this chance. Gurmeet shared the screen space with star kids Akshara Haasan and Vivaan Shah in his next and talks about the challenges he faced to sustain in Bollywood. The actor’s first two films were erotic love stories and he was seen giving steamy scenes in both the film. The telly star who portrayed family-oriented roles on the small screen suddenly defied his image on the silver screen.
In a candid interview with Times of India, Gurmeet talks about nepotism and the challenges his faced in the industry to get the kind of roles he was looking for. The recent Karan Johar-Kangana Ranaut debate over nepotism has been making news for a while. Since Gurmeet is an outsider he was asked if he was affected by this issue anytime. The Khamoshiyan actor reveals, “The industry is ready to help if you are talented and hard-working. I agree that it’s easier for a star kid to enter Bollywood, but that brings along with it a huge responsibility. They have to meet the standards set by their family. Later when he was quizzed about working with star kids and did he feel intimidated by their presence on the sets. Gurmeet adds, “I have done too much work on TV and have also done a couple of films to be intimidated by star kids. I am a silent person on the set; I am respectful of other actors, but am not inhibited by them. Akshara (Haasan) and Vivaan (Shah) are simple and good actors.” It is clear that Gurmeet is confident enough to focus on work and not get affected by anyone or anything. “They (Akshara and Vivaan) were very grounded and we had fun on the sets. I used to tell Akshara that I have been a great fan of Kamal Haasan ever since I watched Chachi 420. Similarly, I would talk about Naseeruddin Shah with Vivaan,” says Gurmeet.
