There is a confusion in the birth date of Bollywood actress Amrita Rao. Some say she was born on June 17, 1981, while others give her date of birth as June 7. We couldn’t confirm that from Amrita, so we thought we shall send some good wishes to the actress in any case. The cute actress has won a million hearts with her performance in notable films like Vivah, Ishq Vishk & Main Hoon Na, among others. Her simplicity and shy smile earned her a huge fan following in a short time. But unfortunately she couldn’t achieve much fame in the industry and finally decided to make it big on the small screen. Amrita Rao now plays the lead role in &TV’s show Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hai, which is currently one of the top watched shows on TV. Recently, Amrita also tied the knot with RJ Anmol. The wedding took place on May 15 in Mumbai in hush-hush manner. The two were dating for nearly seven years before saying ‘I do’ to each other. Amrita began her acting career with TV commercials. She was a17-year-old when she featured in Woh Pyar Mera, Alisha Chinoy’s music video. Amrita made her Bollywood debut against Arya Babbar in Ab Ke Baras (2002), which tanked at the box office. She then made a blink-and-you-miss appearance in Ajay Devgn’s The Legend of Bhagat Singh in the same year.
She got noticed only after her 2003 film Ishq Vishk, which starred Shahid Kapoor as the male lead. Her innocent look and performance in the film got her positive reviews from the viewers and critics alike. She also bagged several awards for the film, including the 2003’s Filmfare Best Female Debut Award and IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year in 2004. Amrita was bombarded with movie offers post the success of Ishq Vishk. She did Masti, Main Hoon Na and Deewaar in 2004. Although her acting was applauded in all the movies, she failed to make a name in the industry even after working in eight big films. The change came in after her 2006 film, Vivah, again opposite Shahid Kapoor. Amrita became a household name overnight. The Rajshri Productions film also went on to be the highest grosser of the year.
Amrita was also featured in an item song in Akshay Kumar’s Heyy Baby. The petite beauty also tried her hand at the south Indian film industry. Athidhi, Mahesh Babu’s action film marked her Telugu debut. The movie went on to make Rs 35 crore at the box office. (ALSO READ: Amrita Rao birthday special: Bollywood’s girl-next-door goes HOT!)
Unfortunately, that was her end in Bollywood not literally though. Amrita acted in as many as nine films since then but none of them helped to rescue her acting career. In 2009, she did win the Stardust Best Actress Award for Welcome to Sajjanpur, in which she played a village woman.
After a gap for nearly two-and-a-half years, Amrita made her television debut with Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hai. The saga is based on the real-life story of the Mangeshkar sisters; Lata and Asha and their alleged rivalry. Amrita is seen playing Lata Mangeshkar on the television show. Amrita had a tough time adjusting with the tough schedule of the small screen industry, but it looks like her hard work has paid off. Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hai is now one of the most watched shows. Our best wishes to Amrita Rao!
