As predicted, Shah Rukh Khan’s holiday release Happy New Year received a stupendous response at the box office across India. Another prediction by trade experts that came about was that the Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone-Farah Khan magnum opus managed to beat the opening record of box office giant Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3. According to the official figures, the Happy New Year opening box office has collected Rs 44.97 crore all-India. Like we told you, Ace Khan’s Dhoom 3 had broken the opening BO collection record of SRK’s film Chennai Express – Rs 33.12 crores. The 2013 movie had created an all-time record of Rs 36 crore (all languages).With the October 24 housefull release, Shah Rukh Khan’s movie has also broken the opening BO collection of Salman Khan’s movie Kick that was second after Dhoom 3 at Rs 35 crores.
In effect, Shah Rukh Khan has shown the other two rival Khans – Aamir and Salman – who the box office king is after all. The tagline of HNY – Iss Diwali Todenge Taale Indiawaale – is ringing true.
